The Challenge

A large, global, hi-tech organization hired a new external Vice President (VP) for their Supply Chain Function at a time when the customer required production at an expedited rate. Finding areas to streamline within the supply chain would go a long way to meeting this new requirement. The new VP wanted a better understanding of the talent within his organization which spanned 3 states.

The Approach

Tomi hosted several in-person and virtual meetings with the leadership team (the new VP and 3 department directors) to gain a better understanding of the end goal and vision for the organization. Following these meetings, Tomi determined the best approach would be to use a 9-box Talent Matrix to conduct a talent mapping exercise.  She presented her recommendation to the leadership team to gain their buy-in on the approach. Tomi then facilitated and coached each director as they evaluated the performance and potential for about 300 employees within their respective departments. Using all this data, Tomi partnered with the leadership team to create a succession plan for each directorate, as well as the VP position.

The Result

At the conclusion of the project, the new VP firmly grasped the strengths, opportunities and gap areas within the organization. As a bonus, the directors also gained more insight into their staff composition. Tomi continued working with the leadership team to create development plans for the staff with high potential, and action plans to address those with challenges.
